Anaya is a girls’ name whose origin is not well recorded. Dictionaries list it as a given name without a settled etymology, and the meanings offered for it vary a great deal, so we leave the meaning open. The same spelling is also a Spanish surname, taken from villages called Anaya in the province of Segovia, but there is no clear sign that the girls’ name comes from it.
In Ireland it is recent and still rising. It first reached the CSO list in 2012. Ten years ago it sat at number 497 in 2015, and 2025 was its best year so far, with 19 babies and a place at number 229 in 2025 once spellings are combined.
