The story of Fionn
Fionn means fair, white or bright. It is the name of Fionn mac Cumhaill, leader of the Fianna in Irish legend. As a boy he was told to cook the Salmon of Knowledge for the poet Finnegas. He burned his thumb on the fish, put it in his mouth, and gained all the knowledge in the world.
Fionn has been in the top ten boys’ names since 2022. The anglicised Finn is counted separately by the CSO and is popular in its own right.
