Musa is the Arabic form of Moses. It is used in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and many other languages, and goes back to the Hebrew name of the leader who brought his people out of Egypt. The meaning of the Hebrew name itself is disputed, so it is best simply called the Arabic Moses.
In Islam Musa is one of the most important prophets, and he is mentioned in the Quran more often than any other. The name is common across the Muslim world, with spellings such as Moussa and Mussa.
In Ireland Musa first appears in the CSO records in 2005. It stayed rare for years, then grew in the 2020s. Its best year was 2024, with 16 boys, and there were 15 in 2025. It reached the Northern Ireland lists for the first time in 2025, with 4 boys.
