The story of Éabha

Éabha is the Irish form of Eve. The name goes back to the Hebrew Chavah, which is traditionally linked with the word for life.

It first appears in the CSO records in 1990. It grew through the 2000s, held steady at around 110 to 140 babies a year for a decade, then jumped after 2019, reaching number 2 in 2024 and again in 2025. It sits in the same sound family as Ava and Eva, which are also popular in Ireland, so it suits parents who like that sound with an Irish spelling.
