The story of Jj
JJ is a name made from two initials. As a nickname it has long been used for boys whose first and middle names both begin with J, such as John Joseph or James Jack, and some families now register it as the name itself. There is no fixed meaning behind it, so what it stands for depends on the family.
JJ first appears in the CSO records in 2010. For its first few years only a handful of boys a year were registered with it.
It has picked up in the 2020s, along with AJ and TJ. Its busiest year was 2022, with 11 boys, and in 2025 it was number 360 once the spellings are combined. The CSO records each way of writing it separately: Jj had 10 boys in 2025, while J J and J.J. appear in some earlier years.
