The story of Paige

Paige is a spelling of the English surname Page. The surname came from the job of a page, a boy who served as an attendant in a noble household. The word reached English through French. Further back it may come from a Greek word for a boy, though some scholars doubt this and suggest other roots. Like many surnames, it later became a first name, and it caught on for girls in the United States during the 20th century.

Paige reached the CSO list in Ireland in 1991. It grew slowly through the 2000s and 2010s, and had its best year in 2021, with 66 girls. That year it was number 84 in the combined ranking, and 85th on the official CSO list.

It has been more popular in Northern Ireland, where it reached number 53 in 2015.
