Parker is an English surname for a park keeper. In medieval England a park was an enclosed hunting ground, and the parker was the gamekeeper who looked after it and its deer. Like Hunter and Carter, it is one of many job surnames that have become first names.
It was used now and then as a first name in the nineteenth century, and it has become popular again, mostly for boys, in recent decades.
In Ireland, Parker first reached the CSO list in 2012. Its best year was 2018, with 25 boys and a place at number 215. It is a little more common in Northern Ireland, where it reached number 117 in 2017. In 2025, 15 boys in Ireland were named Parker.
