The story of Lottie
Lottie started out as a pet form of Charlotte, the French feminine form of Charles. It can also be short for other names that contain “lotte”, such as the German Lieselotte, or for Ottilie.
The best-known early bearer is Lottie Dod, the English tennis player who won Wimbledon in 1887 at the age of 15.
In Ireland Lottie first reached the CSO list in 2004, and only a handful of girls got the name each year until the 2010s. It rose steadily from there and had its best rank in 2024, at number 78. It is more popular in Northern Ireland, where it ranked 28th in 2025.
