The story of Callie
Callie began in the nineteenth century as a pet form of Caroline, and it is sometimes treated as a form of Carrie as well. Caroline in turn is a feminine form of Charles. Today Callie is usually given as a name in its own right, and it is also spelled Cally, Kallie and Kally.
It belongs with other short names ending in -ie, such as Hallie, Ellie and Millie, that began as pet forms and are now given in full.
Callie first appears in the CSO records in 2000. It grew through the 2010s, with its biggest year in 2017, when 41 girls got the name. Its best rank was number 136 in 2024. It does a little better in Northern Ireland, where 23 girls got the name in 2025, putting it at number 92.
