The story of Jaxon
Jaxon is a modern spelling of Jackson, an English surname meaning “son of Jack”. Jack itself grew up in medieval England as a pet form of John. Writing “x” in place of “cks” keeps the sound but gives the name a newer look, and Jaxson and Jaxxon are other versions of the same idea. The name is used for boys.
Jaxon is one of the newest names on the Irish list. It first reached three boys in a year in 2011 and rose fast, peaking in 2021 with 83 boys and a place at number 82. It has dropped back sharply since, to number 175 in 2025. It took off even more strongly in Northern Ireland, where it reached number 36 in 2019, well above anything it has managed in the Republic.
